He perfected the consumer product and created the peripheral base to sell it to the common man. Likewise with Apple and consumer desktop computers, networking, desktop printing, etc. To get the full gist of the Apple experience, go buy a running Apple SE and just mouse around on the desktop. It's actually PLEASURABLE. MS never got that

But the mouse ruined the machine for consumer use. It would cramp your hand after 40 minutes of use so that you actually couldn't use the mouse for the rest of the day. Apple got both right the first time around; mouse and GUI.

Don't remember who. Mousing with NT4.x was comparable to mousing with Apple's System 6.x. Actuall pleasurable to use. But MS didn't want users to actually enjoy using PC's, so they fucked up the mouse drivers in all subsequent implementations.
