(Millions of people would have bought XBO anyway). Without forced connectedness, developers will not have the same incentives to put the same resources into developing cloud enabled games.

Well what about cloud "based" games and saves in "offline" singleplayer. You could play your campaign or career (in some limited form) from your tablet. Original XBO policies would have accelerated this evolution. Now, this will happen, just not as fast, still... Fast enough. Point being: MS is not as evil as the Internetz thinks.
